It's A Holiday For Some; But Not For Me

I have absolutely nothing to write about today which is why half the day has passed with no post. I wish I had something exciting to tell you about; but there’s not really much going on other than the normal day-to-day routine.

For some people today is a holiday, a day off from work or school; but, not for me. I’m at work today, which is just as well because with Christmas having just passed and the weather from last week, I’ve had a lot of time off lately and it is nice to get back to a normal routine. Although an afternoon nap wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

I have seen on TV where this year is the 25th anniversary of the MLK holiday, which is odd to me because I can only remember a time when this holiday was around but I was eight when it started which means I had a few years of grade school with no MLK day even though I don’t remember that. The thing I remember most about MLK day was that my grandmother Betty would always take me shopping. Since my birthday was around the corner and I had no school and there were pretty good sales, we would hit the mall for a day of birthday shopping. I always looked forward to that. I sure could use one of those shopping trips right now, or at least the money for one. I have some new clothes to purchase before my trip.

Over the weekend I spent seven hours at my parents’ house doing laundry because my washing machine broke last Monday. I think a belt has come off. I called a repair man and he is coming out this afternoon. I sure hope he can fix it and at a reasonable price because it seems like everything that is breaking is costing a lot of money these days.

As mentioned in the caption on one of the pictures in the snow post, I got Blue back on Sunday, January 9 after being without her for four weeks. I am really glad to be driving that car again and so far things are running smoothly. The heater works and it’s not overheating; so, everything is good for now.

The foot continues to heal nicely. I am walking around without any trouble. The only time it really bothers me is if I have been standing or walking around a lot; especially after work where we have concrete floors. Overall though it has been great and I am so very glad I went ahead and had the surgery.

In other news, it’s now official; my dad is coming to France for the second week of my two-week getaway. Since Jackie ended up not being able to go my dad took her place and will be joining me for a week of sightseeing and eating and whatever else we can find to do. I want to say a special thanks to my mother, good ole Deb, for “letting” him come along. The week he’s there will be the week of their 38th wedding anniversary and to my knowledge the first one they have ever spent apart. Thanks, Mother for letting Daddy come along. We will bring you back a nice gift!

Once our itinerary is finalized I’ll let you all know about it but for now, it looks like we will be taking in as many of the sights of Paris as we can as well as spending a day at Versailles and another day in London thanks to the quickness of the EuroStar! I’m really looking forward to this trip. It will be one we will never forget!

We are finally thawing out from our recent snow. I’m guessing most of the white stuff will be gone by the end of today or tomorrow at the latest. My dad made the comment that he had forgotten how long a big snow lays on the ground. I did too. It’s been a long while since I lived in New York or North Carolina where big snows are commonplace and I had also forgotten how long it takes to thaw out after multiple inches of snow.

I guess that’s about it for today. I’m sorry it wasn’t more entertaining or at least more interesting. In the least Maybe it answered some of the most burning questions on your mind… or not.

Until next time…

So glad your dad is joining you in France! And that is very sweet of your mom to let him - I know that will make it a tougher week on her, but maybe Slapshot will step up to the plate! haha

I saw you last night at church sporting your new shirt! I came over to say hi but you had already left I'm guessing because I couldn't find you. I'm glad Steve is joining you on the trip! I think it would be so lonely to go so far and be by yourself. You guys will have a great time!! :) And remember - you can go two weeks without shaving over there and fit right in!! haha
